The Johns Hopkins
Spinal Column Biomechanics & Surgical Outcomes Laboratory
The Spinal Column Biomechanics & Outcomes Lab aims to improve the neurological outcome and functional capacity of patients undergoing surgical management of traumatic, degenerative, and neoplastic spinal disease. We achieve these aims by:
Validating the effectiveness of various multi-level fusion constructs with in vitro biomechanical testing
Applying biomechanically validated constructs into clinical practice and assessing their long-term efficacy with appropriate outcome measures
Determining the immediate and long-term efficacy of surgical resection and fusion for the treatment primary and metastatic spinal column tumors.
Identifying physiological and operative factors associated with perioperative morbidity, pseudoarthrosis, and poor outcome through retrospective biostatistical modeling and prospective longitudinal observation studies.
